Our Story

Gentle Pearl began in 2014 in a small studio above a tea room on Margaret's Buildings in Bath. Our founder, Eleanor Whitmore, had spent a decade restoring antique pearl heirlooms in London and longed to create new pieces that carried the same quiet sense of inheritance — jewellery designed to be worn often, kept always, and one day passed on.

Each piece is hand-finished in our atelier by a small team of British silversmiths and pearl-stringers. We source freshwater and Akoya pearls directly from family-run farms in Japan and China, choosing only those with a luminous orient and a deep, mirror-like lustre.

We believe in slow craft, considered material, and a kind of beauty that doesn't shout. Our pieces are knotted between every pearl on pure silk thread, the same way they were a hundred years ago, because it's still the best way. The clasps are solid metal, the boxes are made by a bookbinder in Somerset, and the cards inside them are letterpressed by hand.

Our promise

Every piece carries a lifetime restringing guarantee. If a strand should ever weaken, return it to us and we will restring and re-knot it without charge — for as long as you own it.
